After a very loooong day, and shortly before Tommy was to get home from work, I sat down with my little Spanish devotional, “Devoción para el Corazón”. My brain(and my body, really) felt totally fried after a day entirely devoted to website building, and it needed a 3 min break. Website building is not only not my cup of tea, computers are not exactly my gift beyond basic operating, and I have done nothing like building websites before. After several full days on it and still a few major kinks I didn’t understand I was frustrated. I felt like I was falling short and failing in what God had put before me.
Then, I opened the devotional. It was comforting and soothing to my frazzled nerves. It was about the foundational gift. The gift of love.
LOVE is what defines us as Christians (not website building).
LOVE for God and others is what gives us true value in God’s eyes (not other abilities).
LOVE is what truly counts in human relationships as well.
So, while I may have to wait for my website building skills to grow as I work at them, among other skills(such as violin playing… mountain biking… workout muscles…), I will focus on the foundational skills I must not loose sight of, and keep them polished: Loving God and Loving Others. Love. That is the most important thing. (so I can relax a bit and give myself some slack. Yes, my website building skills still need some work and are taking much more of my time than I’d wish, but that is not plumiting my value in God’s eyes). I will put a smile on my face and greet my husband cheerfully when he gets home(maybe even straighten myself and do up my hair for him), love him well by straightening up the house, fix a meal for him, and listen to him and where he’s at in his work situation. Yes, I want to do a good job doing the website and other things, but loving well is the important thing. ♥️
